Safes in Hostels

do you guys feel safe putting your personal documents in the hostel safe (even if the safe is in the room)? i was thinking of getting my own little lock box and locking it up in my suitcase to hold my passport, etc.

I feel it is totally safe. During the many years I have been traveling and staying at hotels and hostales in Spain, never, ever had anything missing from my room and or safe.

Generally the safe in the room is ok. The problem is that in some tourist areas thieves will rip out the entire safe!
