Buying a car - 05/10/04 11:30 PM

Hi Amigos,

Not sure if I should post this here or classifieds but here goes.
We are looking to buy a used car in Spain.
If anyone has a lead on a good deal, please let me know. I will be in the Madrid area first 3 weeks of June 2004.
I'm not looking for much. I plan to spend between 3000 to 4000 euros.
Also, if you have any advice, stories, or comments I would love to hear them.

Thanks,
John&Tomi

Unless you have residence in Spain or a national identification number you will not be able to but a car. Your passport number is not enough to buy a car or get it insured. Cars here are registered to an address and you also need to be "empadronat" which simply means being registered with the local council as living at your address.
If you need a car can you not drive one over from England with insurance? I am of course assuming you are from there.

Thanks for the information Carp. Nothing is ever as simple as it seems. My wife Tomi is from Spain but we live here in the USA most of the time. In fact, she needs to renew her national ID this year. She makes a trip back every summer and some summers I am lucky and get to go too ;-)
Anyway, looks like we will be renting a car again this year.
