Movie "Bienvenido Seņor Marshall" - 06/17/07 11:14 PM

Last week at the Museum of Modern Art, they had a screening of "Bienvenido Seņor Marshall" from 1953. I had never seen this film before and I gather MoMa borrowed a brand-new print from Filmoteca in Madrid. The movie is hilarious with a very subtle sense of humor and a good-natured jibe at the Americans of the Marshall Plan era. They also presented another movie from 1939. "Romancero Marroqui", which was an outright propoganda piece for the Franco regime but well worth seeing. The quality of this crystal-clear print was incredible. I think that anyone interested in Spain who gets a chance to see either of these movies would find them very interesting and enjoyble.

I STILL haven't seen this "famous-with-Spaniards" movie but am hoping to see it someday. Unless I can find it on tape someday, maybe it'll show up on the Old Spanish Movies channel on Canal+.

Most video/dvd rental places have it. It came out a few years ago in one of the El Pais series so you could probably find it at the Rastro.
