I love to see old photos of Spain. Another website of which I've been aware for some time is "Lugares en el Tiempo" (web: http://lugareseneltiempo.iespana.es/ - only in Spanish) which has "Now and Then" photos of many many landmarks in Madrid.

Thanks for sharing! Saludos, MadridMan

Great site MM - I really enjoyed looking at the comparisons between the old and the new.
Thanks
RR

Ok MM - you got me hooked now! - I have found a site that is very similar but with old and new photos of Malaga. This site is also in Spanish and can be seen here:

Whilst browsing the same site, I also found old photos of Semana Santa - some from the 20's and 30's!:

Re: Old photographs of Madrid - 04/22/06 09:06 AM

My last visit to Madrid, there was a elderly gentlemen selling old B&W photos out of the back of his car.

The photos were not originals but reprints of photos. So I skipped buying any.

But there was one photo of Plaza Mayor and instead of the ground being paved in concrete as it is now, it is paved with it was dirt.

Re: Old photographs of Madrid - 05/14/06 01:51 AM

I liked #7, Sr. Jenaro and his SEAT 1500 Bifaro.

I grew up having several SEAT 1500s Bifaros as the family car and we frequently travelled during the Mid 70's - early 80's from Sevilla to MadriZ, Galicia or any Northern castilian area. I have very fond memories of those long car trips,,, that was also when traffic was a breeze,,, hardly ever any congestion, easy parking on all streets.

This year, actually last month, during my last visit to Spain, it was the first time that I did not see a SEAT 1500 on the road, I was told that they are a collector's car.

I saw one parked on 2001 in Sevilla, and at least one every 3-5 years before that.

Sorry! hehehehe! That car brought a nostalgic bone on me! Great pix all of them!
I'm out!

It is interesting to see those old photos with the landmarks in the background. The one with the lady and little boy in Puerta Del Sol with the Tio Pepe sign in the back. The Tio Pepe sign has changed as I am sure that the lady and little boy have also.
