Sad News re: Chupa Chups!

Enric Bernat Fontlladosa, creator of the world famous Chupa Chups lollipop has died at 80 the company said yesterday.

He died on Saturday at home in Barcelona said Miguel Otero, spokesman of Chupa Chups, which produces the candy on a plastic stick. Bernat's invention first went on sale in 1958 with a product logo by Spanish artist Salvador Dali, a friend of Bernat.

Wow, a sad day indeed! Chupa chups are the one thing that my uncle likes me to bring him from Spain as a souvenier (he has diminished capacities and simple tastes).
And thanks for pointing out the Dalí connection! A fine little detail!

I am a chupa chups fan and they are one of the popular lollies here. And I had no idea they were originally from Spain! I just took one out of the pantry and yes, the wrapper said product of Barcelona. In respect for the late creator, I'm gonna suck one now.

Suck one for me too mariacristi...oh shoot, that didn't come out right. My daughter loves chupa chups as well, she's two, she just call them choosichoos.

How strange. ¡Qué raro! I don't even remember Chupa Chups from the two times I lived in Spain--probably too busy sampling chorizo, olives and other good stuff. However, we adopted two older boys from Russia two years ago (now ages 9 and 12) and they call all lollipos "Chupa Chups."
