A question about jokes... - 11/04/04 09:52 AM

I remember not too long ago that when Spaniards told jokes, the target was people from Estepa. I also have heard jokes about Chinos and Vascos.
So, the question is who now is the current "target"?

No "estepa" jokes. Estepa is no location AFAIK.

Sorry, I learn that expression in a Board. It is short for As Far As I Know. smile

Ignacio,

In the U.S., last ones I heard are dumb blonde jokes.

Ignacio,
Estepa is a town in the Sevilla province, and apparently, they were considered to be uncultured - hence the jokes.
Porque se hizo Dracula un granjero en Estepa?
Para sembrar el miedo. (Pardon any grammatical errors, but I think that's how it went).
Anyway, I haven't heard any jokes about the people there for sometime. But, as I was asking, who bears the brunt of Spanish jokes now?

Gazpacho:

I knew, but thanks anyway. Here, they are not (not specially).

I know a couple of those but I am afraid they cannot be published here, haha, they are what we'd call "chistes verdes" (sex jokes). But spanish many times don't get the joke unless you change the subject from " a blonde girl" to "a Lepera".

Pinguino: There haven't been many changes on that that I know of, besides of jokes on the peculiar idiosyncrasy of some regions. The people that, for many years now, have been the target of jokes about fools, are the inhabitants of Lepe, in Andalusia.

Hence the famous "chistes de Leperos".

Like:

-News report:

A two seats light aircraft has crashed into the Lepe graveyard. Seven hundred corpses have been retrieved yet, but more victims are not discarted.

Ignacio,

My mistake. I thought it was Estepa when it should have been Lepe. Anyway, thanks for the information.
As for the "chistes verdes," I don't know too many of them, but I always liked the ones in Spanish because they are, let us say, "pintoresco"
A regional joke that I like is when two elderly maños go to the Feria de Muestras in Zaragoza and see a sign which announces: "Aceros Inoxidables"
One turns to the other and says: "Enselmo! Nos hacemos?"
