Slow/Problem Message Board/Server - 10/24/01 07:10 AM

Hi Group. I wanted to notify you of a major slow-down on the server which carries MadridMan.com. They're telling me of upgrades taking place and things should be back to normal (or faster) by the end of tomorrow/Thursday, but that there may also be some outages (that MadridMan.com might NOT be accessible from time to time). Sorry for the problem and thanks for your patience.

Hi MM, I wondered why it took so long to reach the board today, thought it was my computer playing up!
Thanks.

Yeah. Sorry about that. I'll be happy when tomorrow (Thursday) is finished. HOPEFULLY they'll have all their $#!+ together by then and we'll have a speedy server. :o

GRRRR!!! mad Clearly, they haven't fixed/updated the server yet. It's as slow as it has been for the whole week. rolleyes Don'tcha just HATE THAT???!! mad Sorry for the slow-down, people. Thanks for your patience. Have a nice weekend!

Re: Slow/Problem Message Board/Server - 11/27/01 08:14 AM

The webhost, not having any idea or any indication that the server is running like a turtle, has offered to move the site to a different server (same URL, of course) so let's hope that helps. Frustrating, huh? mad Sorry, people!

Re: Slow/Problem Message Board/Server - 11/27/01 09:04 AM

MadridMan,

Even though slow is frustrating, no board would be catastrophic. I'll take a slow MadridMan site over anyting else out here.

Of course, fast would be super cool.... laugh

Re: Slow/Problem Message Board/Server - 11/27/01 09:14 PM

Hi, MM--
I agree with Wolf...slow is better than nothing! You mentioned in another thread that you're changing over to RoadRunner, which I did recently too (and I thought that was what made the board seem slow--that zippy cable modem makes all the difference in the world after years of campus-based dialup!).

I just have to say that the amount of work you put in on this board is absolutely amazing (does your boss know you do this? smile ) and it's become a highlight of my day to check in (too many times, I am afraid) and see what's going on here. So THANK YOU, so very much, MadridMan, for bringing all of us together. I will happily twiddle my thumbs while pages load!!

Tara smile

It seems they have FINALLY moved the website to a newer/faster server. Does anyone/everyone notice an improvement?? They STILL need to correct the clock though. Sheesh!! rolleyes

Re: Slow/Problem Message Board/Server - 01/03/02 10:05 PM

What is happening?

The past two days the board has been unaccesible, and a few of the posts have disappeared. Are there internet gremlins at work, or has the web-host been acting up?

There were a few posts about New Years, a couple by yours truly, that have seemed to slip into a cyber-blackhole. I hope all has been cleared up, so we can once again revel in this great board.
Cheers!

Re: Slow/Problem Message Board/Server - 01/03/02 10:25 PM

&%$#@!-'in webhost. It seems that (for) now the message board is fine. The webhost moved the website to a "newer, faster" server and they forgot to remove the "temporary file" and so the Hard Disk's space capacity was maximized and nothing new could be written to it. Well, they've removed that file and everything seems to working on the BBS now, but I haven't been able to receive ANY email through my @madridman.com account in about a week. ARGH!!! mad

As for missing posts, I spent an hour today moving dozens of threads which were tossed into the "General Chatter" and other forums to more appropriate forums. Please browse the forums for your postings/topics. Thanks!

Thanks MM for all the attentiveness. I seem to be operating at full speed now. I thought you had loaded some wild pictures from you holiday and the gremlins went nuts!

That's a relief! For a day or so, I thought my laptop was going haywire. eek I know now it was the server for the message board.

Re: Slow/Problem Message Board/Server - 01/05/02 07:42 AM

Thanks all for your patience. Still don't have email access from the main address, but the message board seems to be working fine. I'm beginning to consider a webhost move. We'll see what happens in the coming weeks. But for now, all is well with the message board. So sorry for the problems and down time these past few days. mad

Re: Slow/Problem Message Board/Server - 01/17/02 09:53 AM

Tired of MadridMan.com being DOWN for extended periods of time? I AM!! My #%&@$! webhost has gone to $#%&@! in the past 6 months after 4 years service with them. In the next month I'll be making a switch to a (hopefully) reliable webhost.

What does this mean to you? It means the message board and entire MadridMan.com site will likely be down from 3-5 days to make/move the files and to be universally recognized for its new home.

I'll be sure to alert everyone 2-3 days beforehand, but will try to begin the down time on some Wednesday and hope all is up and working again by the following Monday.

SO sorry for the crummy service, slow server, down time, returned emails, and everything that goes along with having such problems.

You'll be hearing from me. Again, I'm sorry for the past disturbances and the future outages until I make the transition.

Saludos, MadridMan

Re: Slow/Problem Message Board/Server - 01/21/02 03:45 PM

Hello group. I'm sad to announce what you certainly already know. The search function isn't working right now nor are some of the "Page #2"s and I have no idea why. The webhost has told me about having some problems and that they are working on the problem -- hopefully when they fix it the message board will be fully functional too.

I'm SO sorry for the problems. CAN'T WAIT to get the entire site moved over to the new webhost, but can't do it now until the current webhost fixes their problems.

Please accept my apologies. Sheesh. rolleyes This is getting ridiculous. Sorry. mad

frown Sadly, MadridMan

We will all be having withdrawls - DTs in fact. MM - we really appreciate your dedication and perserverance in keeping this wonderful site up and functioning! smile

Re: Slow/Problem Message Board/Server - 01/22/02 02:49 PM

Thanks Puna. I'm doing MY best, but might have to call for "professional help" (I mean for ME, not the darned message board! hehehe.. wink ). It really is infuriating. I'm SO sorry and sad about this. As I said last night, the SEARCH feature doesn't work at all now. I'm trying to "rebuild" things, but nothing seems to fix this problem. Please be patient. I can't MOVE to the new webhost UNTIL I fix these current problems.

Thanks, all. Saludos, MadridMan

Re: Slow/Problem Message Board/Server - 01/22/02 08:22 PM

I don't know WHY yet, but have changed the search function to ONLY be able to search individual forums one at a time.

ODDLY ENOUGH, conducting searches on the 6 BIGGEST and BUSIEST forums can NOT be done. frown These non-search-working forums include:
Hostels & Other Lodgings
Transportation
Favorite Places
Food, Drink, & Entertainment
About Spain
General Chatter

Isn't that JUST great? Sheesh! rolleyes I'm still working on it though.

Sadly, frown MadridMan

Re: Slow/Problem Message Board/Server - 01/23/02 06:34 PM

That's ok, MM, it's not your fault. And as others have said in the past thanks SO much for all your dedication to the site and to Spain, without YOU there'd be no "US"...

ok...that REALLY sounded corny, but you know what I mean!

Buena suerte y

VIVA MADRIDMAN!!

MM check this webhost: Arsys .

Re: Slow/Problem Message Board/Server - 01/24/02 12:06 PM

Thanks for the suggestion, Fernando. While fitting that MadridMan.com should be located on a server in Spain, I think it might be better to "go domestic" so we don't have any communication problems.

I'm strongly considering www.Pair.com - they have a similar plan for a similar price as the one you suggest.

By the way, the SEARCH feature on MadridMan's ALL SPAIN (NOT JUST MADRID) Message Board is still NOT working for those 6 (most popular) forums I listed in my above posting. ALL OTHERS WORK. I have some dialogue going with the technical support people of the software company who created the message board.

I fear I may be REQUIRED to buy a new 1-year license AND an UPGRADE to the newest version they offer to fix the SEARCH problem.

Re: Slow/Problem Message Board/Server - 01/24/02 04:07 PM

MM,

Since this is the SPAIN message board, it is fitting that the server be located in Spain.

I would demand that your current service switch you over to one in Spain, but they first must allow you to actually see where the server is located wink

For security reasons, of course laugh laugh

Re: Slow/Problem Message Board/Server - 01/24/02 06:11 PM

MM, do what you feel more apropiate wink

I suggested it knowing that you would probably had someone in mind, just in case this was cheaper.

Anyway, I have a website with them and the service is great.

Is there something in which I could help you? I could programm a message board like this one with some time... and you will save those dollars.

Re: Slow/Problem Message Board/Server - 01/24/02 06:31 PM

MM,

The two hosting services I recommend are ThinkHost and ImpactHosting. I have used these services before (back in the good 'ole days of get paid to surf the web programs and MLM laugh )

Think Host would answer my emails within hours and they are famous for their superior customer support. I switched from them to Impact Hosting because of some compatability issue (I think it was with CGI scripts or something) but anyway, both of them are good.

Think Host

Impact Hosting

Keep on keeping on
