Spanish "youth culture" question - 08/21/05 11:18 PM

Me llamo Chris. Soy de los EEUU.
I am in school and in the process of writing a paper about bringing an American sunglass company into Spain. I was in Spain in 1992 and loved every minute of it - so I know what a wonderful country it is. But because
it's been a while, I am trying to do some research on the country.
The product is sunglasses that are for the "younger" crowd. People between
the ages of 18-29 years old.
If you could help me answer the following questions, I would really appreciate it!
1) What is the "youth" culture like in Madrid and the rest of Spain?
2) Are fashion trends important?
3) Do a lot of people wear sunglasses?
4) Is it acceptable to wear clothing or a brand that is "controversial" or "edgy"?
5) Do people know what the "X Games" are? They are on ESPN (Sports network)
6) How would you suggest marketing sunglasses to the younger people of Spain?

!Muchas gracias por la ayuda!

Chris

I studied abroad in Madrid my junior year of college. I found the youth fashion in Madrid to be MUCH more extravagent than here in the United States!
The teenages tend to be very trendy, stay out late, smoke cigarettes, punkish?
My guess would be that to advertise a certain type of sunglasses to them, it would have to be something fun, and very exciting!
I can not speak for all of the teenages in Spain, but this is what I can remember! Hope I was of some help!
