Sports in Spain - 04/05/04 11:58 PM

I'm visiting Spain from May 27 to end of June/ first part of July and I want to know what sporting events are a "must see".

I'm really wanting to see some futbol matches and a Toro, but I realize I'm arriving just as Futbol premier league ends. What can I see with out spending a few hundred dollars?

What other sporting events are popular in Spain that I should check out?

I'll be in Segovia, but plan on doing alot of traveling.

Thanks for any info.

Not in Spain, but in Portugal, it's gonna take place the true "must-see", the European Football (Soccer) Championship.

There are some matches to see, for example:

France Vs England, June 13, Lisboa
Germany Vs Netherlands, June 15, Aveiro
Spain Vs. Portugal, June 20, Lisboa

Here you can take a look to the Euro2004 shedule:

Not many matches left with available tickets I'm afraid. frown

Spain v Russia is four hours drive from me but all the tickets went months ago and my application was returned as unsuccesful.... Head for the nearest tapas bar with a TV laugh

Yes, I found that was the case also, not many matches available. And the prices are way out of my league $400/per match.

I really think I will take up the idea of the tapas, especially during the Spain vs. Portugal match and the France vs. England match.

Any other ideas?

You'll probably be able to see many of the 'Euro 2004' matches on TVE. Many Spaniards will be watching them from home. As for "a Toro," I assume you refer to a Corrida de Toros, which I don't consider a 'Sporting Event.' rolleyes

Some of the villages around Segovia will have their annual fiestas during June complete with Bullfights (and maybe even young calves that you can do a little Capework with yourself). eek

There are many open air frontones in Guipuzcoa where you can watch amateurs playing Pelota and there are indoor frontones where you can see the 'pros' play and you can even bet on them.
