Enrique Morente, flamenco singer, dies at 68 years - 12/13/10 09:09 PM

Famed flamenco singer, Enrique Morente, died today in Madrid after spending a few days in a coma. He was 67/68 years old and was born in the Albaicin neighborhood of Granada. He was also the father of flamenco singer Estrella Morente.

What a loss. MadridMan, I thought of you when I heard the news as I knew you'd be sad to learn of his passing. He was a treasure! His voice and his spirit live on in Estrella, though.

A great loss of a great talent which will ripple through the flamenco world in the year to come. Imagine all the homages to him in the upcoming flamenco festivals!

I never saw him perform live (I don't think) as he always performed outside of Madrid city (but within La Comunidad de Madrid) for the Suma Flamenca festival - until LAST YEAR when I didn't get tickets. Figures! (I was in the USA that whole month)
