Buying yarn (wool, etc.) in/around Madrid? - 02/22/01 02:22 PM

Hi--
Whenever I travel in Europe, I like to buy enough yarn to make a sweater, which I can then knit as I am traveling (in the car, on trains, etc.). I would like to find some in Madrid, Avila, Salamanca, Segovia, or Toledo. I have checked some of the online yellow pages, but searches for "lana" get me lots of manufacturers, etc. And I can't tell anything about the shops--good quality, poor quality?

I know it's an odd request, but it has been such fun in Italy and Germany, and has become a tradition/quest!

If El Corte Ingles has yarn, that would be good to know too.

Thanks! Only a week to go before I get to (finally, after my long love affair with all things Spanish and all the places I have been there!) introduce my husband to SPAIN!

Try Plaza Pontejos off of Puerta del Sol. There are several fabric/notion shops which are fun to browse. There's also El Gato Negro on c/Sal (I think) right off the Plaza Mayor (walking toward Sol). They have yarn as well.
