Buying Beef - it's NOT Ternera, so what is it...? - 04/15/11 09:20 AM

Hi,

So I want to try and buy a fillet of beef for roasting or maybe grilling...

can't seem to find it very easily - the butcher has everything except beef... veal, no problem!

So what should I look for and ask for - is it carne de vaco or it it Buey, vacuna or novillo?

Oe even solomillo de vacuno

Surely it should be possible to buy beef for a steak or a roast here?

to clarify, I'd like to buy what in the UK we call topside or silverside for roasting on Sunday every couple of months (tho probably not in high summer grin)

And also, I'd like to try this recipe from Jamie Oliver:

the recipe in the book and online calls for a 700g fillet of beef!

So, what should I ask for if I want these cuts, or joints in Carrefour or El Corte Ingles

thanks
Philip

I don't mean to be factious but wouldn’t it be more fun (and no more expensive) to eat out? Or is it just that I’m missing all the wonderful tapas places???? smile

Well,

Tapas in Madrid, c'mon ...

If you were talking Granada Tapas, or perhaps Salamanca that would be different...

I found this tho:
