Back in the 70s and 80s, there used to be a hotel at the Plaza de Espana. It was on Calle Princesa (I think) overlooking the Plaza. It was a tall brick building. I think it was called The Plaza Hotel.

Does anyone know what happened to it? Is it still operating as a hotel? If so, what is the name?

My husband & I used to stay there all the time. We were airline crew. It was so old world and we loved it.

I would love to stay there again.

degbi,

I'm sure you're referring to the Crowne Plaza, which overlooked the Plaza de Espana. I stayed there in Mar. 2005, but when I went back last month, I was surprized to see that it had closed.
The name has been taken down, so I assume it's closed for good. I think the building is called "Edificio Espana" (or is it "Edificio Madrid"?) Does anyone know what happened or what it'll be used for?

Just curious, since I no longer live in Madrid!
